OLD SPICE REVEALS WHICH NFL TEAMS HAVE THE MOST SWAGGER
OLD SPICE REVEALS WHICH NFL TEAMS HAVE THE MOST SWAGGER
Rankings Recognize Teams That Play with Swagger Week-In and Week-Out
CINCINNATI (Jan.8, 2010) – Old Spice knows Swagger. So it is fitting that today Old Spice announced the first-ever Swagger Rankings, an index recognizing which NFL teams have the Most Swagger – a nod to the male grooming brand’s most popular scent and a highly-referred to term denoting those who play and act with confidence.
“When it comes to Swagger, it’s not just about a winning record, it’s also about playing with confidence and a winning attitude,” said James Moorhead, Old Spice Deodorant Brand Manager. “As the official deodorant and body wash of the NFL, Old Spice knows that having Swagger gives players and teams an extra edge both on and off the field.”
To determine the 15 teams with the most Swagger, Old Spice worked with the NFL to obtain and analyze statistics from the past 3.5 years (2006 through week 9 of the 2009 season), looking at key factors that embody the definition of Swagger. The teams that topped the list scored high marks in a variety of categories:
• Red Zone Performance: Scoring and Tackling when it counts requires Swagger on both sides of the ball
• Taking Your Swagger on the Road: Winning a game while tens of thousands cheer against you requires massive amounts of Swagger
• Fourth Down Conversions: It’s fourth down. You have to have Swagger to go for it…and make it
• Gentleman’s Game: It takes a different level of Swagger to play the game by the rules and avoid penalties
• Merchandise Sales: When fans wear your team colors like a uniform, you definitely have Swagger
Old Spice Swagger Rankings:
1. Indianapolis Colts
2. Pittsburgh Steelers
3. New England Patriots
4. New Orleans Saints
5. Minnesota Vikings
6. San Diego Chargers
7. Dallas Cowboys
8. Philadelphia Eagles
9. Cincinnati Bengals
10. New York Jets
11. Denver Broncos
12. Seattle Seahawks
13. Kansas City Chiefs
14. Miami Dolphins
15. San Francisco 49ers
“For a team to consistently perform at a high level, they need to have swagger,” said ESPN Analyst, Keyshawn Johnson. “Behind the win-loss records, teams need to have confidence to always step up and deliver their best, and swagger is one of the things that fuels a championship-winning team.”

Ok Old Spice,
You want to talk about sports? you want to talk about football?
Well I have just one word for you – “THROWBACKS”
Its a well known event that from time to time football teams pull out some uniforms representing “years gone by”.
Most teams have been around long enough to do that!
Recently I was watching a game that was on TV at work and saw that Mega Marketing Giant – Pepsi was issueing a “limited edtion Pepsi with real sugar”.
On the can was a label that says: “throwback”
Without a doubt, Old spice is in a position to offer a “Throwback” of their own from the past with the Origional Old Spice Bottle and Formula.
This might just help solidify that connection to sports that your looking for!
Limited Edition of course!

Your latest TV commercial and that idiot on you home page leaves me and my father never to buy or refuse to wear Old Spice ever again. I shall also convince everyone never to use your products.

The Man Your Man Could Smell Like is the funniest commericial I’ve ever seen. Good job Old Spice.
Posted by: Yup on February 13, 2010 at 10:31am #
Old Spice commercials are better than any Super Bowl commercials I’ve seen in my entire life. Anyone that disagrees obviously cant appreciate hilarity and creativity and probably uses Herbal Essences Conditioner. I’m talking to you ^Gary and ^Fred. Plus, Gary, you used the words “sux” and “differnt” so your opinion doesn’t matter a whole lot.

My son’s name is Jamie and this ad is SO insulting. Do you even know how many men are named Jamie — and they are manly men, not wimpy creeps like your ad suggests. I will no longer be buying thisproduct for my husband.
Posted by: LMAO on February 15, 2010 at 6:36pm #
Just wanna say…SAINTS HAS THE MOST SWAGGER EVER!
and…the “wish your man could smell like me” commercial is HILARIOUS!!! One of the funniest commercials I have seen in a while!!! My dad and bro use old spice so yay!
Posted by: jay on February 16, 2010 at 7:32pm #
I think the commercial shown during the daytona 500 didn’t help your sales any. Way out of line. Try again !!!
Posted by: Ron on February 16, 2010 at 7:44pm #
your guy smell like me!!!! I want to thank you, you gave me something to use for target practce (Your Product) will not be using your product anymore. What a way to boost the economy with me shooting yours and buying another brand.
Posted by: Regina on February 16, 2010 at 8:45pm #
Well, it’s about time Old Spice! The rebranding is fabulous– way to take charge and own the market with a fine, handsome, confident spokesman in your new TV ads. My late father used Old Spice so I knew about the product but haven’t seen you guys on TV and thought you had dropped off the planet. But alas, was I wrong! Welcome back and congratulations on the comeback campaign!!! Obviously you got a new hip agency and/or hired some fresh blood with new ideas. Well done!!
And, just like AllState is doing — keep the campaign going strong, cause I want to see more of your new spokesman too!!
I love the spot where he transitions through several scenes and ends up on a horse and is talking trash! Fantastic!!!

Our family LOVES your new commercial. It is by far the best commercial out there right now. Just saw it for the first time tonight watching LOST. We kept rewinding and watching it again we loved it so much! Keep them coming.
Posted by: David Mcknight on February 17, 2010 at 3:44pm #
Te origional owner of Old Spice will probably role over in his grave over that latest commercial. Its a far cry from the “sailer returning to port” theme that so many of us remember Old Spice for! What a shame!
Posted by: Beata on February 18, 2010 at 9:19pm #
LOL, people actually dislike your newest commercial? Really? Yikes! I think that this is the best EVER commercial for mens cologne. I use to buy for my ex, but I’m getting it tomorrow for my fiance. Yeah baby
Posted by: BigSkyGal on February 22, 2010 at 7:42pm #
Are you kiddin’ me, man? ROTFLMFAO, man. That ad was awesome! I am demanding that my man wears Old Spice…. and nothing else. Man.
Posted by: DAVID MCKNIGHT on February 23, 2010 at 3:25pm #
Yeah I guess Im looking for a serious concept to coincide with the daily application of mens toiletries; rather than being entertained by a stupid (hilarious to some) commercial.
I just showed this to my wife and asked her what her opinion was of it.
“She thought it was stupid and wondered how it was suppose to be taken serious enough to prompt someone into buying the product”?
Apparantly there are those that suggest “comedy” makes them decide as to what products they buy for their “significant other”.
I can only wonder just how long these consumers have been faithfully purchasing Old Spice?
Its not a bad thing when a person is past their 20’s and 30’s.
Can you imagine what it feels like to faithfully use a product since the 1960’s, only to have a company try to redesign and remarket the product away from that consumer base;and cater to a completely differant group.
Thats what is refered to as “disenfranchised”.
Some of the faithful will just end up walking away, while others may end up seeing if there is something left to cling to!
Their is some similarity with the Origional Old Spice fragrance to comparable companies in the Bermuda area, such as Royal Spice and St Johns Bay Rum Spice.
The word “spice’ hints that Clove was used in the fragrance, although today the P & G fragrance of Old Spice smells more like Vanilla.
Still, sticking with tradition; I rather smell of Carribean Island Spice; than some “Irish Spring / knock Off”!
I used Old Spice when I was serving the US Coast Guard.
I took it to sea for a 7 day cruise with Windjammer Cruises.
I wear it faithfully everyday, despite the changes that have occurred.

Absolutely love your new comercial! The man your man could smell like! It’s hilarious. The best I have seen in years! After we have seen in the first time on the TV we kept rewinding and rewatching it was SO good. Intelligent, witty, fast, perfectly made, brilliant!!!! And it so made me want to buy the product! And that is very rare! I even posted in on my Facebook wall. Great job!

Had been wearing Old Spice for over 40 yrs, along with the men in my family before me. Thanks to the newest commercial, will no longer be wearing. Back to the drawing board on a better commercial. HELLO-Old time sailors!
Posted by: Joe on March 1, 2010 at 9:25pm #
I’m guessing that some ad designer at (for) Old Spice has her man squished beneath her highly manicured thumb and thinks that all men only buy their deodorant based upon a woman’s whim. Sorry Old Spice but real men buy what appeals to them. Being a cabinet maker my gal just loves the smell of my wood and applauded when I toss my Old Spice overboard after seeing that ill conceived commercial. You folks can ride that horse right into the ground!
Posted by: LeAnna on March 2, 2010 at 12:50pm #
Your new commercials have sparked some humor in my 6 yr old. He has added to your pitch stating, “Man soap makes your hands bigger!” My family loves the ads!
Posted by: Kathryn Hackney on March 4, 2010 at 11:47am #
Your commercials rock…they make me laugh…I use to think Old Spice was for “old men” …guess not…!
Posted by: Daniel Swope on March 4, 2010 at 12:03pm #
Why complain about a commercial? Thats a woman’s job. If you’re a man, act like man. you wear Old Spice not because a commercial told you to, but because your man instinct told you to. if you dont agree…give yourself a gender check because wearing Old Spice is as manly as it gets.
Posted by: Al SUrprenant on March 5, 2010 at 6:52am #
Not important to me about your football interest. I have used your classic body spray long before it came in a pump container. Pay attention to your product fans… I always had to search for the classic spay, so it can’t mean guys weren’t buying it. Did you find something cheaper to replace it thinking guys like me would buy that awlful order because it’s “old spice”? WRONG
Posted by: Matt on March 5, 2010 at 10:59am #
It would be nice if their products were made in the US instead of MEXICO. I will no longer be purchasing.
Posted by: Shawn on March 5, 2010 at 11:49pm #
Hey Old Spice Team,
Ive got a great idea on how to market your product.
You get a hot white blonde chick that is built like a Frederericks of Hollywood or a Victoria Secrets model.
Dress her in bedtime lingerie and have her staring into the camera telling all the guys out there how “Old Spice gets her hot and ready for one on one sporting time in the sack”!
Maybe with that commercial, you’ll have guys wanting to see if the stuff really is a chick magnet!
Instead of relying on those “significant others” to purchase the product for their ” less than manly man”!
Market your commercials for the gender that the product is meant to be used by!- Man
Posted by: Jason on March 8, 2010 at 6:14pm #
Hey Old Spice Team,
My friends and I came up with a great t-shirt idea. You should make a shirt that says “Sadly ladies, your man isn’t me” or some type of interpretation of that line. We would rock that shirt all day every day!
Keep up the great work you guys. We love the commercials!

LOVE the new “the Man Your Man Could Smell Like” ad! So funny – nice to see a funny, slightly sarcastic commercial like that!
Posted by: JJ on March 9, 2010 at 8:32pm #
I didn’t know where to post, but the new adds are amazing…i want to buy old spice stuff now…best ads I have ever seen!
Posted by: ntolerant on March 12, 2010 at 7:19pm #
Wow, the number of people who have no sense of humor in this country today is pathetically high. Old spice might still smell like a gorilla’s arse, but the commercials are funny as hell. For the person who won’t buy the product again because of a son named Jamie, get over yourself, and laugh a little more at life. You are way too uptight. I work with a manly man named Jamie, but when I saw that add I printed it off immediatly and taped a copy to his office door. Good old fashioned ribbing of your fellow man, and he laughed his arse off. Sad we live in a society where 3/4ths the population can’t even tell you the name of the speaker of the house, but finds time to rant about an add and boycott a product because of humor…Blah
Posted by: DAVID MCKNIGHT on March 15, 2010 at 7:52am #
WHATS BAD IS IF THE PEOPLE WRITING IN ON THIS BLOG HAD TAKEN THE TIME TO READ WHAT THE SUBJECT MATTER WAS SUPPOSE TO BE ABOUT!
IT DIDNT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO ABOUT PEOPLES OPINION ABOUT A COMMERCIAL!
NOR DO THE PEOPLE THAT WRITE IN, MENTION HOW LONG THEY HAVE BEEN AN OLD SPICE CUSTOMER;OR THEIR PRODUCT REVIEW AFTER HAVING TRIED THE FRAGRANCE “SWAGGER”!
ITS HARD TO FIND HUMOR IN EVERYDAY RESPONSIBILTY LIKE :TRAFFIC, GOING TO WORK,PAYING BILLS,CRIME IN THE COMMUNITY!
ASK YOURSELF HOW OFTEN PEOPLE FIND HUMOR IN OTHERS MISFORTUNE?
THE TRUTH IN THAT,IS LAUGHING A WHOLE LOT LOUDER THAN THOSE THINK THESE COMMERCIALS ARE FUNNY!
Posted by: William on March 16, 2010 at 1:06pm #
Personally I love to laugh at life, me and my friends do it all the time, but the weird dude making a commercial for your body wash does NOT make me laugh, it makes me want to change the channel and ask myself why do I still use Old Spice
Posted by: NCAALOVER on March 21, 2010 at 1:35pm #
I am totally offended by your gross and disgusting commercials. Who is your target market? It’s certainly not me!!! You would do well to fire your AD company. They are trying to attract the 12-17 yr. old market. Do they have any money?
Posted by: kris on April 4, 2010 at 11:53pm #
I agree with the above statement posted by NCAALOVER. Unfortunately, these commercials represent what big business contrives in relation to the average American… That is, Stupid Commercials for stupid youth and stupid consumers. If this is what America has become, I will do my best to illuminate others as to what truly matters.
It is JUST A COMMERCIAL. THERE IS NO NEED to watch them (commercials). Effort invested in a lifetime speaks volumes over poor humor (in relation to this trifled subject of commerce). Those that only laugh at life defile life by denial of life’s sublime moments of love, hate, happiness, anger, joy and sadness.
If P&G desires Old Spice to remain a timeless classic, they (P&G) should respect the true definition of a man… not a moronic adolescent.
Posted by: Shawn on April 6, 2010 at 8:09pm #
Well put kris!
I know a couple of other guys by the name of Hank and David that speak the same truth on that other” most talked about blogsite” Old Spice / Fast Company…
Maybe you could share your opinion with them as well!

How wonderful are these commercials!
)) It doesn’t mean that I am only that. I’m also strong and indipendent… but I can’t deny that other part of me which wants a man that smells like that other man with those two tickets to that thing i wanted to see… and how beautiful is that white horse!
I’ts great how ironic they are about the stereotypes, and how right they are about us having them!
With all respect to the women’s rights movements, I can’t help but fall for these seductive images targeted towards a stereotypical stength-loving, dreamy and fragile female, which I am
so thank you for this seductive irony!
I will defenetely suggest my man an old spice deodorant
